LOS ANGELES/MANILA – It’s official: the “American Idol” tour will include the Philippines again this year, providing Filipino-American Jessica Sanchez the chance to perform in the country of her mother.
The American Idol tour in Manila is set at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on September 21, according to an ABS-CBN report coming from Ovation Productions.
The report came on the heels of the meeting in Los Angeles of President Benigno S. Aquino III with the singing sensation from Chula Vista in San Diego County, California.
Aquino met Sanchez after a dialogue with the Filipino-American community, the final event in his three-day US visit, before flying back to Manila for the Philippine Independence Day celebration.
Moments after the meeting, Sanchez posted on micro-blogging site Twitter: “Heading back, that was an honor :)”
Aquino hailed the talented Filipino-Mexican-American singer, saying she brought honor to the country of her mother as well.
Sanchez, who was to sing later the US National Anthem, Star-Spangled Banner, at the Pacquiao-Bradley fight in Las Vegas, said she was looking forward to visiting and singing in Manila.
American Idol’s visit in Manila in September will be part of its world tour. American Idol winner Phillip Phillips and the 11 other finalists of the season 11 will all perform at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the show called “American Idol Live Tour.”
The Philippines is the only country outside of North America that is included in the two-month tour, and is slated to be the finale show of the “Idol” finalists, according to the ABS-CBN.
Last year, the Top 10 contestants of the 10th season of “Idol” visited the country for a two-night concert. Their tour stop in Manila was the finale show of their concert series.
Sanchez is expected to have a busy schedule in Manila when she and the American Idol finalists come over in September.
She will be expected to see President Aquino again, this time in Malacanang. Vice President Jejomar Binay has also invited her to the Coconut Palace.
She is also expected to be awarded with Congressional resolutions of recognition.
Early reports indicated Sanchez maybe performing with Latina singer-actress and American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez in a concert at the Arena at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City in November. The MOA show will be part of the world tour of Lopez.
The Latina singer-actress, who topped this year’s Forbes influential list, has decided to include Manila in her concert tour titled “Dance Again,” according to N91 Live Productions, promoter of the show.
The concert, part of the tour Lopez shares with half-Filipino Enrique Iglesias, will happen on November 24, 2012 but Iglesias may not be part of the Philippine tour.
Jun Lorenz Mamangon, CEO of N91 Live productions, the same promoting agency that has made last year’s Justin Bieber concert possible for Filipino fans, will finalize whether J. Lo will use SM MOA’s The Arena or The Concert Grounds.
