June 25, 2010 MANOLO FORTICH, Bukidnon – Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Asian Center for Biodiversity (ACB) HAVE cited Asia’s longest dual zipline as a boost to the country’s eco-tourism industry. DENR Public Affairs director Marissa Cruz said Bukidnon was successful in pushing for its eco-tourism program to attract investors.
Cruz said Bukidnon’s rich natural resources, climate, and eco-tourism potentials are its assets to jumpstart an image building effort to “resell” the province as an investment destination. Bukidnon Governor Jose Zubiri said that ecotourism was a good entry point for better business environment in the province. “Once eco tourism thrives, it is easier to attract real estate investors and other financial leaders,” Zubiri said. The former siomai vendor of Batangas met his idol Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda and even had a duet with him on the set of ABS-CBN popular show “The Buzz.” Jovit, who admitted that he has long been a fan of Pineda, said he could hardly believe his eyes upon seeing lead singer of the American band. June 25, 2010 MANILA — Filipino’s Edrin Dapudong won the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Flyweight Silver Belt title Sunday (Saturday night in Mexico) with a first-round knockout of Mexican hometown hero Jesus Jimenez at the Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. “We came to work. We came to punch. We came to fight. We threw a lot of punches and that’s what we wanted,” Dapudong said. “We saw the punches were making him tender to the body. Fortunately, the knockout came.” With the win, the 23- year-old Dapudong, a shy farmer from M’lang, North Cotabato who is a protégé of former North Cotabato governor and journalist Manny Pinol playing out the Braveheart Boxing Club improved his ring record 18W-2L, 10 KOs. MANILA (PilipinasNews) — It’s all systems go for the inauguration of President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay on June 30 at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta.
Thousands of people, including three heads of states and foreign dignitaries, are expected to witness the event. It will really be a tough time for Democratic congressional incumbents in Washington come midterm elections this fall. On the other hand, Republican candidates should not feel too confident of their chances because it seems like the voters finally had it with both parties’ incumbents. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports that federal prosecutors are conduct ing a criminal probe into whether Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. or its employ ees committed securities fraud in connection with its mortgage trading. The matter was referred to the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) which had brought a civil fraud lawsuit against Goldman Sachs charging that it hid vital information from investors about mortgage-related securities it traded.
