It’s A Small World Filipino-Mexican-South American Connection

by Fred C. Wilson III
May 16, 2013
When I lived in San Francisco I had no problems blending in within the local citizenry. Once I moved to Chicago things changed. When I walked down streets, attended church, went to school, and shopped people would stop and stare; some hostile most curious as to my ethnicity. Continue reading

VIVA ITALIA! Italy’s Vibrant Filipino Community

by Fred C. Wilson III
April 16, 2013
A few years back I did an article on my experiences in Rome. My wife and I traveled to Italy a few years ago. The trip was a gift for my 60th Birthday. During our stay we were unaware of the large number of Filipino-Italians. Had I known I would have added a section about them in my article ‘Roman Holiday.’ Rome is home to a variety of ethnic groups; the Roma peoples, Africans, Mexicans, university students, and the usual entourage of pilgrims hailing from all over the globe hoping to visit St. Peter’s Basilica and see the Pope. Continue reading

HABEMUS PAPAM! -Papal Expectations-

by Fred C. Wilson III
March 16, 2013
There’s something in a name. The previous popes Benedict inherited a Church fraught with sexual scandals, corruption, and general lassitude among the laity. Benedict XII (1334-1342) an Avignon pope was a reformer and noted scholar. Despite his efforts this pontiff failed to curb luxurious lifestyles among the clergy. His bull Benedictus Deus on the Beatific Vision said even after death our souls remain conscious; human consciousness is eternal. Continue reading

THE SOULMATE CONSPIRACY Valentine’s Day Special (Part 1)

by Fred C. Wilson III
February 1, 2013
“Do not praise individuals for their good looks or loath anyone because of appearance alone.” -Sirach 11:2-

Saint, statesman and Renaissance man, Sir Thomas More said, “Romantic love is an illusion. Most of us discover this truth at the end of a love affair or else when the sweet emotions of love lead us into marriage and then turn down their flames.” Having married twice (his first wife died), St. Thomas knew his subject. The emotional high from being in love is a good thing. Continue reading

THE TAXMAN COMETH!

by Fred C. Wilson III
January 16, 2013
This tax season will be one for the books. Tax laws change so frequently that the Internal Revenue Service seems slow in keeping up. Some tax pros suggest taxpayers delay filing until March, reason being, tax codes are still undergoing revision. As of this writing the IRS announced five changes for the 2012 tax year. Continue reading

The New You – Reinventing Self for 2013

by Fred C. Wilson III
January 1, 2013
“The way to get started is to quit talking and get doing.” -Walt Disney-
For successful people self-reinvention is essential. Pop icon Madonna does it; philanthropic-martial artist Jackie Chan, super-model Naomi Campbell, political consultant David Axelrod, above quoted artist-entertainment visionary Walter Disney and myriads of other successful people periodically junk their old ‘wine skins’ in exchange for new selves. But how do you make the best out of the rest of your life? Procrastination kills. The ‘manana’ mentality is obsolete. Continue reading
