Aldrin Jeff Cudia and the PMA Code of Honor

Who would think that in the Philippines, “lying” could cost a student everything he had worked so hard for and even worse, lose that prized diploma just when it’s within his arms’ reach? The student, Aldrin Jeff Cudia found it out the hard way. Continue reading

Sin of Omission

Skipping three consecutive issues was a total breach of a pledge I had made this 2014. Having promised myself to consistently write articles for my column, I couldn’t help feeling guilty and disappointed at myself for failing to keep my word. That and the fact that I know that the more I skip writing the easier it would be to keep missing more issues. Continue reading

Salute to a Centenarian Mrs. Luz Agustin Mella

Mothering for many Filipino women doesn’t stop just because their children have grown up, left home or even started a family of their own. Their maternal instincts and family traditions take them as far into caring for their children’s children (grandchildren) and the children of their children’s children Continue reading

Bragging rights… or just plain bragging

“Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself than of other people, nor does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts. It means freedom from thinking about yourself at all.” William Temple (1881-1944) Archbishop Continue reading

Ramblings… and a Christmas Wish

Do we ever run out of wishes, particularly on Christmas? If you say “No,” I’m with you. But if you say “Yes,” consider pondering on that thought a while longer.

Life always leaves us something to be desired. It’s our raison d’etre, without which our life is meaningless. Continue reading

Quincy’s First Halloween

My grandson, Quincy and I waited a few hours, even left the front door slightly ajar and opened the back door to peek if there was any sign of his friends showing up for their trick or treat but sadly, there was none. A basketful of good treats – chocolates, Skittles and an assortment of Tootsie Rolls waited by the door but there were no takers. Continue reading

The Way To Treat A Poison Letter

Shortly before our October 1st issue came out, we received a poison letter in the mail, copy furnished to a number of Filipino American publications and some select community leaders. The letter was so vile that after reading it, I didn’t even want to talk about it with anyone. Neither did I have the urge to call the people who were the object of the nasty accusations, Continue reading

POSTSCRIPT: 19th Gintong Pamana Gala Awards Night

September 1, 2013
The recently concluded Gintong Pamana Awards Night Gala last Saturday, August 24th at the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt Regency O’Hare was an awards gala event like no other. In the words of most attendees, awardees and their families and guests as well as the GP volunteers and crew, it was the best ever – fast paced, lively and classy! The food was great too! Everyone had a great time, even the dancers who came with nothing but dancing in their minds didn’t feel cheated out of their time to dance. Continue reading
