SC chief: ‘It’s a hoax like 45 properties;’
Carpio dared to resign if proven wrong
PASAY CITY – Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales, a candidate for Chief Justice like her cousin Associate Justice Antonio Carpio before Renato C. Corona was appointed Chief Magistrate, took the witness stand for two consecutive days in the Senate Impeachment Tribunal, and unloaded what prosecutors claim as their bombshell – Corona has allegedly $12 million in 82 dollar accounts in at least five banks.

Morales, basing her testimony on a 21-page report provided to her by executive director Vicente Aquino of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, claimed that several transactions on the dollar accounts reached $28 million.
Morales later told the Senate tribunal upon questioning by Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago that the dollar accounts would form the basis of a second impeachment complaint against Corona, in case he is acquitted in the first complaint which is under trial in the Senate.
Morales, also on questioning from Santiago, said nothing will prevent her office from filing forfeiture proceedings against Corona if warranted.
“If you think it is warranted then your only purpose will be to file a second impeachment complaint. Isn’t that so, is that a fair question?” asked Santiago. “If it’s warranted, we will,” Morales replied.
